No Other God
Exodus 34:14 (KJB) For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
Moses beseeched God for His help. While he had been busy serving God the people, left alone for a time, had chosen to busy themselves by serving golden idols. Moses understood that idolatry in any form was a “spiritual slap in the face” to God and would not be tolerated.
God intervened in this idolatrous situation of the Israelites by first reminding them that He was a jealous God. He rightly desired their utmost attention and would not put up with occupying last place in their lives. They were once again commanded to turn their attention towards Him, serving no other God before Him and to destroy their idols.
Perhaps many Christians need a strong reminder today to serve God and only God.
The personal relationship between man and His God is to be revered and separated from that of this world. Certainly, God has been replaced by idols in the lives of many professing Christians. Because He cannot tolerate sin, He will swing His hammer of judgement upon anyone serving idolatry.
