Not Irresistible Grace
John 6:44 (KJB) No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
The drawing in of a man mentioned in this verse is said to be more like being drawn into a net, like in fishing. What it is not is a mindless and heartless drawing, as in the belief some hold in the false claim of the potential of irresistible grace.
This drawing spoken of in this verse is a pull or tug on the heart that a lost man cannot possibly resist without facing eternal consequences. This attraction or magnetism relies solely upon the drawing of God but leaves the choice of personal action to the heart of every man. Therefore, there is a significant problem with believing in this false doctrine, God does not ever “horse collar” any person into savoring and serving Him. There is always a personal choice to be made in agreeing with and following things of God.
Only a man whose eyes, ears, and heart have been opened through the presence and power of truth can see and hear the truths of God. This spiritual infusing, or heart revelation is made possible through the conviction and sanctification of God at work in softened hearts.
A spiritually quickened alive man desires in his heart to be in sweet fellowship with God and makes a personal choice to answer the calling of God upon his heart and to partake in the eternal nature and promises of God.
