Not on Your Terms
Matthew 16:24 (KJB) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Yes, it is true God does meet any person right where they are at in this life.
However, God does not meet them on their terms. A true encounter with God only takes place in the midst of His spiritual terms. God cannot, and will not, lower Himself to the level of a wicked heart condition of a natural man.
A man must allow God to lift him up. Just like the woman at the well whose narrative is found in the biblical book of John, was gently lifted from her own personal darkness and wrapped and tucked inside the brilliant light and unconditional love of God.
This Bible verse from the book of Matthew, along with many others in the cannon of scripture, remind us that God desires for man to heed His prodding and calling, desiring in his heart to act upon God’s commandments and precepts. Though God cannot “collar” man into heeding Him He desires for us to hear His call and choose to follow through with His divine teachings and commandments.
Only man can stifle his own spiritual journey in this world. God desires for every man to come to salvation, thereby deny his own will and take up the eternal cause of Christ. Coming after Christ is only the beginning step of a spiritual journey with Christ.
