Not Reckoned By Genealogy
Ezra 2:62 (KJV) These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.
In ancient times, genealogy was necessary proof of one’s heritage for many things, including land ownership and, more importantly, a rightful claim to the priesthood. This verse from Ezra’s book in the Bible speaks of men who attempted to obtain a place in line as priests. However, these men lacked proof of their “right” to this position, and therefore could not be considered, or as stated in this here, “were not reckoned for the priesthood…”
These men were considered polluted or without the proper pedigree. In contrast, chosen men of God naturally stood at the opposite end of the spiritual spectrum, being unmarred and holy and ready for anointing into the priesthood and service for God.
Only chosen men of God could operate on this earth as priests in ancient times. These men were holy and born with the right pedigree for placement in this most exalted earthly position. No man was deemed worthy apart from the leading of God.
