Nothing Less Than Our Best
1 Samuel 12:24-25 (KJV) Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
These verses give us direction in serving and savoring God. It tells us to serve Him with our whole heart. This directive does not imply serving God when we feel like it, or whenever we have time, or when it feels right. No, sincerely serving God stems from the heart and is a natural process at work in every spiritually softened soul who professes to have a personal spiritual relationship with Him. Those who serve the god of this world do it naturally as well. The spiritual state of heart will determine who one chooses to revere and reverence; God or the god of this world.
Hold on that is not all we can learn and apply; the verse following, twenty-five, serves as a stark warning to any person not serving God but instead honoring the god of this world. Each of us should note that everyone who ignores God and desires to align with the darkness at work in this world will be consumed. The last verse includes a stark promise from God for all who discredit and ignore God’s direction and decrees while they live in this world. You can count on it- those who ignore God and fail to follow His directives while alive on this earth will face ruin.
It is no surprise that God desires us to give Him our best and nothing less. Knowing this, any person who fails to live up to God’s desire for his or her life chooses to live in enmity to Him and perhaps until death without remorse and humility before Him. By choice, such souls will face certain ruin at God’s hand; you can count on it!
