Nothing You Purchase Truly Says Merry Christmas
Matthew 2:11 (KJB) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
The wise men traveled by following this star in the sky to welcome baby Jesus into the world. Not only did they welcome Him, but the Bible tells us they came bearing gifts. Some might say that the tradition of buying presents, still observed by many, came from this ancient example by these wise men and that doing so is rooted in a biblical foundation.
Let discover further information concerning the gifts God’s Word tells us these men presented upon meeting the baby Jesus. Each gift was meant to convey special meaning. The gifts were recorded to be gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Gold has always carried financial value, frankincense is a valuable incense (especially in burying the dead in ancient times), and myrrh a costly ancient perfume. All these gifts do tie Jesus Christ into being an earthly king, or high priest, and tie into the preservation of His human body once it was taken down by the soldiers from the cross having shed His precious blood and expiring in physical death.
Though many observe Christmas with the giving of gifts, no gifts can send such a vital message about who Jesus Christ is and always will be, above and beyond these unique ancient gifts offered to baby Jesus soon after His earthly birth by the wise men, or magi to Mary and Joseph.
