Novice Ministers

Hebrews 5:12-13 (KJB) For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

God’s word warns us in several verses that a pastor must be familiar with and skilled in His Word.  What does this mean? It means that every called pastor is not “spiritually seasoned’ the moment he trots out of the gate.  It takes time, study, and diligence for any man of God to be spiritually healthy and mature in his service for Christ.

A new convert, whether he be a preacher or a layman, he is naturally weak, fallible, and unskilled in spiritual matters. He learns and builds faith as he serves and savors God.  Any soul who continues to sip  His Word, rather than to “drink it in,” is never highly skilled in spiritual affairs.  Likewise, any soul who matures and moves onto digest the meat of His Word is seasoned and competent in preaching truth and in serving God.

It is essential to note that a man of God must spiritually mature and filled to overflowing with the meat of God’s word and not stuck in the infancy stage, a spiritual novice, lapping easy to digest truth.  A called man of God grows from sipping milk to consuming and dishing out the meatier matters to hungry souls, as is found in His Word by discerning hearts.
