Philippians 4:8 (KJB) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
It saddens me when I see and hear other professing Christians tied up in knots over the latest network news of the day. News is often politically motivated, can be propaganda in nature, and reports of violence and bloodshed can be over the top with the addition of unnecessary division, racial divide, and drama to personally draw more viewers into the story of the hour.
Indeed, the world’s twenty-four-hour news cycle it is seldom seasoned with much good news. What is considered newsworthy in this world most often does not agree with God’s characterization of news.
Even Christian news is often far removed from matching with this verse above taken from the book of Philippians.
Even worse, much Christian satire and comics poke fun at situations that should bring a professing Christian to his or her knees in tears of sadness rather than to be busy about serving satire and producing laughs.
It is time every child of God chooses to take things of God seriously and to get busy bringing the biblical based good news to others. Doing so is both expected and eternally acceptable rather than choosing to capture jokes, juicy tidbits, and be drawn into fast-paced drama and division commonly dished out by numerous news agencies which are often busy stirring the kettle and creating a “circus” in this world.
The news on all fronts has gotten out of hand and far removed from that which God desires His spiritual family pay attention to in this world. His directive is to pay mind to truth, honesty, justice, pure things, what is spiritually lovely, good reports, virtuous stories, and praiseworthy items are what He desires for us to set our minds on and allow to filter into our hearts.
The news found in God’s Word is of an excellent report, valuable, timeless for it is as up to date today as it was in ancient times. Serve it liberally to others who are drowning in drama, politics, and division offered by the twenty-four-hour propaganda circus act working in this world.
