Outward Rituals But No Heart Change
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. (Romans 10:2 KJV)
Paul is specifically speaking about the beliefs of Jewish people in this verse. They were eager about God but were flawed in doctrine. They certainly believed in God but did not possess knowledge of Him in their heart.
The book of James tells us that devils also believe in God but do not possess a personal relationship with Him and led by a dark and deadly spirit. The Jewish people Paul is referring to in this verse were aboard the same “spiritual boat”, having knowledge of God without having His presence alive and kicking inside of their heart.
Do you have a zeal of God but lack the genuine existence of God at work in your heart? There is a major difference between professing academic knowledge of God and through faith having His presence dwelling inside your heart. One leads to an eternal presence with God forever, and the other leads to the fires of hell.
