Peace of Mind in The Middle of a Troubled World

Peace of Mind in The Middle of a Troubled World

The second installment in our new “Spiritually Fit Heart” devotional series

Philippians 2:5 (KJB)   Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus

The mind of man is physically small but mighty. The human mind is, without a doubt, the most extraordinary computer and top notch messaging and storage facility ever!  Man cannot humanly duplicate the astonishing processing the mind can naturally compute.  The mind is divinely crafted by God.

In the life of every child of God the mind it is “spiritually complimented” with His godly influence and power, both present and working inside the regenerated man’s softened heart.  A renewed mind can be prevailing and eternally potent in this world as man allows God to rule and reign in his life.  In fact, God’s Word has much to say about the mind, both in its naturally wicked state and in a renewed spiritual state inside a personal relationship with God.  We will study both spiritual conditions in this latest installment of this new devotional series.

The physical mind of man is divinely tucked and protected inside a boney cranial cavity.  This cavity is meant to cover and protect the integrity of the human brain which is the center point, or crux, of all complex mind cognition and mental faculties.  However, as with any other physical element of the human body, the brain can be easily wounded if the head is subjected to traumatic force as happens in a fight, fall, or accident.  Being subjected to such trauma can cause sudden upheaval leaving the brain bouncing about back and forth perhaps falling against, or into, its own protective but pointed boney structure.  In “medical speak” injuries such as this are known as a coup contra coup.  If the brain is subjected to such great force and physical trauma it can degrade man’s physical and mental integrity for a short time, or can cause permanent injury, and even death.

The mind of man can be unbroken physically, but wounded emotionally and spiritually.  Adverse circumstances such as suffering insult, degradation, and being continually subject to filth spewing forth from a dark and wicked leaning heart.  The Bible says in Proverbs 18:21 that mankind’s words can convey either great evil or great blessings and the power of life and death can be waged by his tongue.  However, one thing to keep in mind that Jesus Christ faced severe tongue lashings and great evil hailed against Him during the short time He was on this earth.  It is the same kind of emotional and verbal assault as mankind can be subjected to today (John 16:33, John 7:7, John 15:18-27).  Yet Jesus Christ remained spiritually poised, having a godly influenced mind, and eternally victorious.  His mental composure and dignity certainly usher in hope for those who have placed their trust in Him and have His very presence at work inside both their heart and mind.  The child of God can certainly remain poised and have a strong heart and mental presence amongst the darkness and evil at work in this world when aligned with the supernatural power of God.

God promises His own children a peaceful and sound mind (1 Timothy 2:7). However, for the man or woman who does not personally know God their life can be riddled with doubt, confusion, and manipulation by evil.  Being “spiritually muddled,” rather than spiritually fit and fortuitous, serving to jumble mankind’s thought life, his actions, and works, clouding his perception of events happening about him on this earth, and bringing disastrous consequences and loss of peace and poise both in this world and for all eternity.

The human brain of mankind is a dynamic physical human machine divinely crafted for the purposes of processing thought, perception, and cognitive functions, sustaining or preserving important parameters of vital health, and sending and receiving autonomic messages concerning physical body functions.  It is man’s mind that houses his thoughts, feelings, and emotions.  It operates in conjunction with his inner heart condition, as outside stimuli are processed and decisions are formulated and made.  Man’s environment is naturally filtered inside his heart and mind and greatly influences his mindset and leads to his choices, whether they be intrinsically good or evil in nature.

The brain of man is literally “communication hub central.” It is the place where all his thoughts are organized, body processes are initiated and carried out, and all stimuli and communication relays operate.  The brain is like a “motherboard” or human processor specially optimized for intricate physical functions and processes passing through the brain on a continual basis.  Even in his sleep man’s brain is at work meting out details, being influenced by his atmosphere, and processing involuntary, or autonomic, functions throughout his entire body.  This is similar to a computer router on a network.  The brain incorporates the entire human grid which is divinely comprised of seven human body systems.  These systems rely upon one another to preserve human life.

Brain functions are so complex it is possible for a man to converse with God, communicate with his own body, and have discourse with individuals, all while living in this world. All forms of communication take place by being initiated through the complex circuitry contained in the lobes of man’s brain.  This circuitry is connected to his entire body through an intricate system sheathed in his brain and spinal column and consists of a line of delicate nerves and synapses.  This electrical chain crosses over from left to right in the brain stem before it proceeds through entire length of the spinal column.  It is used for control and maneuvering of the human body through various reflexes and muscle groups, both voluntary and involuntary situated throughout the body.

The physical mind can wear down, be inoperable, and fail.  However, the spiritual mind can be renewed and refreshed:

Romans 12:2 (KJB)   And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Yes, the man of God, who has his heart eternally settled and secured by the indwelling presence of God, has a renewed mind upon salvation.  His mind is spiritually freshened and made sound allowing him to better serve and discern the truths of God.  This spiritual discernment ability must be exercised and applied in order for him to discriminate and judge what is Truth of God to set it apart from that which is false teaching being generated by the god of this world.

The natural man’s mind is automatically tuned into the things of this world with no desire to acclimate himself to hear and act upon truths of god.  In fact, he often chooses to ignore or reason about any communication or drawing of God.

Unlike spiritual renewal from God, physically man cannot ever revive or regenerate his heart or mind.  Once either physically erodes or wears down due to physical degeneration, chronic disease, dementia or the like, neither cannot be recreated, revived, or renewed in any super improved form, made better forever through by any medical procedure, or by any medicine.  Only God can renew and refresh the eternal supernatural spiritual aspect of man’s heart and soul allowing it to live forever with God for all eternity.

Romans 8:5-6 (KJB)   For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

A sound mind is a clear and godly disciplined and stable mind not clouded over or manipulated by evil forces proliferating in this world.   The man who chooses to be aligned to the darkness and evil of the god of this world has an eternally unsound mind.  Either he is infiltrated and possessed by satan, or he is spiritually oppressed and hampered by the wiles of satan greatly affecting his effectiveness and the working of his mind as he sojourns in this world.

God promises the man or woman of God he or she will enjoy eternal spiritual harmony with God and have His peace satisfying both their mind and heart.  It is impossible for satan to occupy the heart of a person who has the very presence of God dwelling inside his heart and at work in his mind. God saves, seals, and sanctifies regenerated hearts and renews the thinking of his or her mind.

Therefore, a genuinely saved person cannot live and think as he once did because both his heart and mind have been made new through trust in the finished work of God.

Over and over again throughout the canon of scripture the Bible promises the man or woman of God this:

Isaiah 26:3 (KJB)   Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJB)   For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

We are never promised an easy spiritual road as we walk with God but are given opportunities to engage in warfare bringing honor and glory to Christ:

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (KJB)   (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

This warfare includes all the spiritual weaponry God introduces to us as recorded in Ephesians chapter six.  These are essential elements of His armament for protecting and arming our spiritual minds and hearts.  They include loins girted with truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet shod with an understanding of truth, and the shield of faith.  These weapons are for both offensive and defensive maneuvers in the heat of battle in this world.  These accouterments never allow for the soldiers of God to sit on the sidelines of life but spiritually prepare them to engage in the many battles waging on this earth.  Today it seems either many are not armored for battle or have chosen to sit down rather than stand up against the wiles of the dark enemy.

What about your mind and heart?  Have they been renewed and armed by God for sowing seeds of His gospel message and for engagement in godly spiritual battles?  Or have you chosen to sit in alignment with the evil and darkness proliferating in this world ignoring God’s call upon your life and allowing the filth of the world to flow like as river inside both your heart and mind?

Mankind is either taking a stand for eternally minded spiritual victory with God or sitting in perpetual defeat aligned with the god of this world.  Man’s mind is either projecting forth supernatural movies starring God or found to be streaming great wickedness and evil productions of the minions of the god of this world.

The mind filled with the presence of supernatural peace in the midst of a very troubled world is a mind ruled and controlled by the presence of God.
