Polluted Fruit from a Lame Bunch
Malachi 1:12-14 (KJB) But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible. 13 Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD. 14 But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.
These believers were a spiritually lame bunch. They offered to God what they did not want for themselves. Their offerings were polluted with self-importance in leaving the best for themselves rather than aiming their best for bringing honor and glory to God. Their offerings to God were the lame animals and the bruised fruit. That which had wounded flesh was sick, was spoiled, and certainly that which they did not want!
This fruit and the meat were given in contempt. Their blatant disrespect was sad, especially when measured against the unlimited nature of the goodness and mercy of God. God was good, and His mercy was great and immeasurable. However, the people were filled with lopsided ideas about giving unto God.
Nothing much has changed today. Though a man no longer must give God sacrifices on the altar a genuine child of God does naturally desire to serve and savor God. Sadly, many half-hearted servants are professing a personal relationship with God but choose not to give God their best and wonder why God seems so far removed from their life.
