Prepared for Departure
1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 (KJB) But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
I am sure that many of you have embarked on a trip or traveled on vacation at least a time or two. You pack your bags carefully, trying to consider your every need and desire when you are away from the comfort of your own home, for you will “live” out of a suitcase over the next several days. Whatever may come, you are ready!
Sadly, many people do not put this much energy and thought into preparing for the impending return of Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Paul is speaking here about being prepared for what will undoubtedly come.
Paul is remarking about the expected times and seasons of life we know for sure will happen.
A proper understanding of the period in which a person lives is crucial. Each person must evaluate his or her life according to the expressed knowledge that the Lord will return to this earth one day soon as is recorded for our learning in God’s Word.
Yes, no individual can know the exact moment the Lord’s will return, but we can comprehend the necessity of being ready for that moment, for it will come quickly. Each of us should live expectantly for our future. God gave us warnings and wisdom concerning the seasons and events to happen before Jesus Christ coming back to this earth. Each of us can expect His arrival at any moment for all prophecy concerning His appearance has taken place.
