Problems In A Pastor’s House
1 Timothy 3:4-5 (KJB) One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
God laid out a recipe for every pastor’s success. There are many directives and decrees to be found in the third chapter of 1st Timothy to guide and direct in his mission. These scripture verses, in particular, are often overlooked by both pastor’s and their congregation. Why, because many a pastor’s house is more like a war zone than a biblically-based home. This characterization is a sad fact about the state of many pastor’s homes today.
When a man is called to preach in the pulpit by God, that does not mean that the devil will remain in the distance, refusing to harass the man’s wife and family and to resist making himself at home inside the residence. The truth is that there are interpersonal problems and damaged relationships galore inside most pastor’s homes, in equal numbers as compared to average layperson homes. The devil keeps pushing his crooked agenda towards men of God to disrupt both his family and his ministry, diminishing his message and effectiveness and weakening his identity with God.
The truth is that it does not have to be this way. God calls able men, but despite what a man preaches and professes to his congregation in a church, the state of his home indicates the real state of his heart. A called pastor is human, like you and I, and is susceptible to sin when he takes his eyes off God.
The Word of God, along with God-directed action, can make a called man a great leader in his home as well as in the pulpit of God’s church, but God must be involved in every aspect of his work and life.
Show me a man who is called of God, rules well in his house, and pastors his church well, his obedience and dedication pleases God. No doubt that God is involved in every aspect of this man’s life and ministry.
