Proving What is Acceptable

Ephesians 5:10-11 (KJB) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

This verse above concerns proving that which is acceptable unto God.  This proving is presented for our learning in this verse.

First, note that this scripture does not direct us to decide for ourselves what we think is best.  Or allow society at large to deem what is relevant and tolerable.  This verse takes into consideration what is acceptable unto the Lord using His specific and perpetually relevant criteria.  God’s standard is not just for application in ancient times; rather His way is unaffected by time and remains appropriate for today and tomorrow.

The second principle is for a child of God to have no fellowship with darkness.  A sincere practicing Christian will desire to align himself with God rather than to cozy up to the evil and spiritual darkness at work in this world.  Separating from wickedness in this world allows the light of God to shine brightly against this ever-mounting sin.

Not only that but His crucial third direction is for us to reprove evil.  Not only are we directed to stay away from wickedness but to reprove it and rebuke it with the truth of God.  It does not do any good to poi]nt out what is right with God and at the same time, not to correct sin at work in this world.  The rebuking of sin is often missing among churches and professing Christians living in this world, and when this reproof is missing, it causes confusion and lukewarm living among the lost and brothers and sisters in Christ.

God’s perfect formula for consistently proving what is right and acceptable is located in scripture.  It is His recipe is for our learning and application in this evil leaning world.
