Put It Far Away

Amos 6:3-6 (KJB) Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; 4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; 5 That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David; 6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

The Word of God has made the destruction of the future accessible and known to every soul.  However, many people have placed blinders over their own eyes in regards to what God has revealed in His Word, both in ancient times and today.

Sadly, many professing Christians are not at all bothered or grieved about the spiritual condition of hearts.  Or about the presence of sin and afflictions, then or today.  Or a person chooses to follow God from a distance rather than living boldly in the light for Him.  These verses capture the woeful spiritual state of Zion and Samaria.  Instead of putting evil far from themselves and electing to agree with God about sin, these spiritually wayward souls welcomed evil with open arms and relished their association with it, ignoring the direction and desires of God.

God desires for each of us to flee evil.  He wants us to put distance between ourselves and the wickedness at work in this world.  It stands to reason that a person who chooses to put evil far away walks closer to God.  Sadly, just like ancient souls, many choose to ignore God and to align themselves with wickedness at work in this world.
