Shadow of Death
Psalm 23:4 (KJB) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
The shadow of death, what is that? It sounds gruesome and forboding. What would you think if I told you we are all walking in the shadow of death as we sojourn in this wicked world. That is right, both saved and lost souls live in the shadow of death as they sojourn in this evil world. The door of death is open and waiting for each of us to succumb.
However, the critical point for every child of God to focus his attention on is that despite the fact the each of us will one day physically die, a child of God must not fear death but celebrate its eventual coming. The sting is removed from death, and it does not have a hold over any regenerated person. The end of life causes anxiety and trembling for unsaved hearts. The unknown occurs in lost souls at death.
The spiritual family of God has The Shepherd, Jesus Christ, who cares and comforts His own spiritual family concerning life, death, and eternity. He is their God both on this earth and forever leaving no shadow on physical death but eternal victory forever.
Jesus Christ won the victory over the grip of death. Though each member of God’s spiritual family lives near the shadow of death on this earth they will live forever because of the shed blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Calvary purchasing eternal life for every saved soul.
