Slyly Sympathetic Ears Sent to Jesus
Luke 20:20 (KJB) And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
These men were sent to Jesus to provide him with a sympathetic ear.
How often have you thought or said to yourself “man, it would be nice to have somebody to talk to about this situation.” Or you reach out on the phone or post on Facebook about a situation in your life and leave prayer as the last option in your life. Certainly, Jesus did not entertain such thinking or adopt such actions He was known to humbly seek out the advice and will of His Father in heartfelt prayer concerning delicate matters of life.
These men were sent by the government to bend His ear, hoping that He would bend theirs back just a bit. They desired for Him to reveal information and help them find a motive to trap Him saying things that were against the authority of the government.
Boy, in other words, these men hoped that Jesus would confide delicate matters to them in an all-out effort to trap Him, but their efforts were aimed far away from the reality of this man named Jesus.
Perhaps you can relate to this kind of spiritual mousetrap. How often does your enemy lay in wait close by to hear you say something poisonous to his or her own agenda?
Jesus Christ was operating under the presence and power of God. He could not be tricked or trapped by His own words for they were always spoken with God’s will and character at work in Him. Jesus had no need to bend any sympathetic ears for precious spiritual communication with God was all that He needed! We can all learn a great lesson from His desire to communicate foremost with God.
