Some Preach Empty Words
1 Timothy 1:5-7 (KJB) Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; 7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
Paul was speaking about strict-minded Jews who were preaching about the strict keeping of the law of God and skipping over the necessity of God’s commandment to love others with a pure heart. These men were so caught up in keeping the law that they could not possibly harbor any inkling of genuine love at work in their hardened heart. Their brand of preaching was regimented and without the presence of God or His compassion.
You see, love and a good conscience towards God go hand in hand. When a man is right with God, he has the presence and power of God at work in his heart. It is only then that he can reach out to love others like God loves giving direction and decrees of God to hungry hearts.
The Jewish men were offering sermons without the power or presence of God. Therefore, they had no working understanding of His love nor were able to offer His love to others in the preaching of their empty words.
