Some Refuse To Get Dressed
Isaiah 61:10-11 (KJV) I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
When you read that title, you can be sure that I am not referring to occupants of a seedy hotel room, ill-repute ladies and gents of the street, or even defiant young children who often desire to remove their clothes rather than to keep dressed. Let’s move on to learn more about these prophetic verses and what God means here about getting dressed.
These scriptures refer to a coming wedding ceremony within the ancient context of Israel and the church. However, its relevance continues to be of great importance for every soul to this day. Yes, soon, there is going to be a wedding of Christ and His church.
Indeed, you are familiar with weddings, families gather, ancient tradition says the bride wears a white dress, and many men don tuxes or are attired in appropriate wedding garb. The entire wedding party is decked out for the ceremony.
However, this scripture is not referring to an earthly wedding.
This passage is pointing to the marriage of Christ and His church. Saved souls are apart of the congregation of God and clothed in the precious white wedding garments of salvation. God said, “come,” and we humbly did. That is right; any sincere professing child of God has willingly put on Christ’s righteousness and has changed his dirty clothes for the white or unmarred garments of Christ.
Sadly, though, as these verses tell us, some souls utterly refuse to get dressed in God’s covering, clinging to their dirty rags and imminent sin nature. Other mislead souls go all out- adorning themselves with ornaments, jewels, and a robe, and think they are ready for such a ceremony to come. However, only souls clothed in Christ’s righteousness, with His inner cleanliness along with outer adornment, are prepared for His wedding ceremony.
I hope you are ready to go to this ceremony in the special garments only Christ provides. The wedding invitations are sent to every soul, the guests continue to arrive, and the groom will come to the wedding soon, and the ceremony will begin at the hour appointed by God.
