Song of Solomon – Introduction 03
Prov. 2:1-5 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
I need to go over one more thing, in greater detail, and then pose some foundational questions.
First, our text verses above speak to effort on our part. You’ve heard me say over and over, that we need to “mine” the Words of God. Each book, each, chapter, each verse, each WORD… is a gold and gem mine, waiting for the diligent miner to come in and mine for all sizes of beautiful gold nuggets, and all different gems of great value. God gave us that little word “if,” in our text above. Do we? Will we? Have we before, but fallen away? Are we taught, in our text verses, that if we DON’T… we will be at great spiritual loss?
But, our verses above also speaks to a great promise, and a great treasure waiting for us. How is your spiritual bank account these days? Do you know that His mine will never run out? Folks, this mine, which is HIS mine, is as limitless as He is! Got gold? Got gems? His gold, and His gems? Do the gems and gold of His mine, adorn your life? Do they fill your spiritual bank account? Or do you have an empty bag? When we fail, or refuse, to give Him time, and give His WORDS time, and give His SPIRIT time, we will very quickly become anemic, malnourished, and at some point, if it goes on, bankrupt. Do we suffer from malnutrition of the heart and soul these days? Do we try to fill our bank account with the paste pears of this world… or His gold?
This book is going to take time and meditation. IT is going to take “seeking,” “searching,” praying, and effort. But, that effort is going to result in something that is very powerful!
Next, I want to reiterate how much this book is very enigmatic. It is hard to get a firm grip on who is speaking. When you come to a part like that anywhere in the Bible, stop, go to the Lord in prayer and ask. GO to the Pastor, and ask. Go to a teacher in the church, and ask, but seek, and search, and pray, and study,
