Spiritual Adoption

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (Romans 8:15-16 KJV)

A paramount spiritual transaction, THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE of God and His only begotten Son, took place when Jesus Christ died upon the cross shedding His precious blood as payment in full for all sin: the past, present, and future over two thousand years ago.  His death on Calvary was the transaction and His resurrection from the grave three days later completed this spiritual reckoning; bringing about a holy remedy of adoption into the eternal spiritual family of God for those who placed their faith in God through Jesus Christ.

Individuals who continue to live in sin, by choice, live in bondage to sin and under the weight and authority of the law.  Those who choose to live in faith through Jesus Christ, choose the narrow path and are lead to eternity bound by God’s grace.  This grace God extends to us is undeserved favor because of our sin nature and paid for by Jesus Christ’s death on the cross.  This unmerited favor frees us from our sin debt.  Therefore, we go from bondage and a harsh task master; to freedom through Jesus Christ and a personal relationship with God.

A relationship with Jesus Christ removes us from our spiritual desert, our Babylon, or our land of Egypt; placing us in spiritual fullness in the land of milk and honey where the waters flow and even seasons of  fiery trials and tribulations flow with inner joy indescribable as we march onward towards eternity.

Whosoever places their faith in His Son Jesus Christ become adopted sons of God’s spiritual family.  Adopted sons and daughters are placed, or grafted into the spiritual family of God.  Both His Son, who sits at His right hand, and adopted sons and daughters have fellowship with God now; and for all eternity.

It is important to note the transaction of adopting a child is a legal and binding agreement.  Just like parents who choose to adopt a child legally become the child’s parents; when adopted in God’s family we acknowledge God as our spiritual parent; repenting, or change their mind about our own personal sin, placing faith in Jesus Christ, acknowledging on a personal level the transaction Jesus Christ completed, or finished, at the cross for payment of all sin; past, present, and future.

This spiritual transaction is complete .  There is nothing that can be added, subtracted, or altered in this equation.  It is not like placing an order at a home improvement store for flooring; then changing your mind about some detail of the color or craftsmanship and choosing to switch to another product before the flooring project is laid.  Likewise, a family would not adopt a child whom they promise to love and cherish and later contact the adoption agency with the sole intent of giving back the child because he or she is imperfect in some way.  No, parents operating upon Christian principals and precepts would accept any child as a creation of God; loving it unconditionally despite any cracks, fissures or warts.

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, (Ephesians 1:13 KJV)

When a person comes to God in faith through His Son the deal is sealed.  The Holy Spirit seals the individual; placing him in the safety of God’s nail scarred hands, preserving him and wrapping him in the unconditional blanket of God’s love and righteousness with an unconditional promise of eternal life.

Being wrapped up in God’s holy seal preserves men from any intrusion attempt or fleshly appeal to break this divine seal or impression the Holy Spirit has placed upon every believer’s life.  Individuals who have salvation through Jesus Christ are sealed and impenetrable making them steadfast and unmovable against any outside sources.  The devil and his minions can detect this sealing, or set aside, upon a believer’s life.  This peculiarity emits a wonderful stream of spiritual fragrance flowing from the believer’s inner soul; softened and captivated by the things of God; flowing outwards to any person in their midst.

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. (John 10:28-29 KJV)

This verse is in the present tense: I give.  God gives us that seal immediately upon salvation identifying our position within His spiritual kingdom.  This designates our spiritual standing; that we are no longer our own; but bought with the price of His Sons shed blood and kept unconditionally with God for eternity.  God continues to give and give and give beyond the seal of salvation to His adopted spiritual family who may be “good” according to the world’s standards; according to God’s commandments and precepts deserve nothing less than to burn in the fires of Hell.  Despite our innate sin nature and many   shortcomings He gives His own family unconditional love; joy unspeakable, beauty for ashes, grace abounding, a peace that passeth understanding, and new mercies every morning.

By far, the best gift of all is His gift of eternal life to whosoever believes and has a change of mind about their individual sin and the holiness and authority of God.  Nothing can come between God and His adopted spiritual family once a believer is placed by God in His nail scarred hand, cloaked with a white robe, and enveloped in His unconditional love.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39 KJV)

No event, present or future, or in Heaven or Hell can keep us from receiving God’s love.  The past, present, and our entire future are wrapped up in the love of Jesus Christ.  We can have a complete and absolute assurance of our salvation and eternal life.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:13 KJV)

We do not hope for a future in Heaven with God.  Or guess that we will be in Heaven with God.  We do not need to continually pray that we will end up in Heaven with God.  Or work for a chance at spending eternity with God.  Never do we just think we might end up in eternity with God.

For Further Contemplation:

We can absolutely KNOW FOR SURE we will be with God and Jesus Christ forever, now and in eternity, because we have placed our faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, accepting God’s free gift of salvation for whosoever believes and been adopted into His spiritual family.
