Spiritual Famine

October 15th, 2019

Hosea 4:1 (KJB) Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

The people of Israel, God’s chosen, were spiritual paupers.  Their hearts were empty of God and filled with things of the world.  Rather than having truth, wisdom, and mercy, they were bursting with self-importance, deception, and things of the god of this world.

The nation of Israel was far removed from God, out of spiritual agreement with Him, and God was not pleased.  God was about to uncover their sin and announce His wrath against them.  Hosea, the prophet, was attempting to get the people’s undivided attention to wake them up for the purpose of paying attention to the sentence God was about to impose.

God was about to expose Israel of their crime and call them guilty.

It would be like stepping foot into a courtroom today and being charged with a crime that you could not answer or bring a plea in your favor.  You would stand guilty before the judge and be sentenced for your crime.

The nation of Israel was about to be charged for their crimes while standing in a desert land that had been overcome with great ungodliness and sin.  This ancient nation had departed from God and allowed spiritual unruliness to rule with great wickedness, but the hammer of God was about to come down.
