Spiritual Goodness Over Sacrifice

Hosea 6:5-6 (KJB) Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth. 6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

The Old Testament was filled with the laws, standards, and the necessity of coming before God and offering a shed blood sacrifice for the presence of sin.  Such a sacrifice could involve a collective offering for a sinful nation, or a personal animal shed blood sacrifice for sin present in the heart of an individual and confessed before God.

In fact, just to be clear, a shed blood sacrifice was a requirement for God’s removal of sin.

A person in ancient times had no way of meeting or exceeding the Law of God on his own merit since that day Adam chose to sin.  Since then sin has been naturally present in every heart from physical birth on this earth.  Yes, every person is born unto this wicked world as a sinner having no spiritual goodness naturally at work in his heart.

However, please understand a shed blood animal sacrifice is no longer necessary for forgiving a nation or an individual for confessed sin before God.

Because God provided a once for all shed blood sacrifice for removal of confessed sin with the substitutionary death of His Only Son on the cross at Calvary.  His finished spiritual work provided victory over sin for whosoever will trust in Him for eternal life.  God desires our faith in the finished work of His Son at Calvary, readily agreeing with Him about the nature of sin, eliminating iniquity and ushering in eternal life.

You see, there is no need for any person to provide a shed blood sacrifice for sin as was necessary according to the Old Testament Law, for in the New Testament the blood of Jesus Christ was offered once for removal of all sin; past, present, and future.  God’s grace and mercy are given to whosoever desire it in their heart.
