Swallowing Our Pride
Galatians 6:3 (KJB) For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
I have never heard of a person’s belly becoming swollen and ill from swallowing his pride. In fact, the proven benefits of swallowing our pride is quite the opposite. Ridding oneself of pride has both a physical and spiritual profit.
All a man needs to do is look in God’s Word to verses containing the word pride. That simple search alone will reveal numerous verses in which God dealt with pride. Unless an individual had pride in the things of God, any instance of pride was not shown in a favorable light.
The spiritual bottom line about pride: whenever a man thinks he has it all together and he is something great he better step back to take a look at himself according to God’s viewpoint. Any meaningful lifting up always involves God while pride-filled elevation always stems from the darkness of this world.
Look only to God’s estimation in finding lasting value and worth. Don’t deceive yourself into thinking your something special when measured against shoddy standards and wallowing in self-pride in this world.
