Living righteously for God is presenting Him as salt and light upon the earth.
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (Matthew 5:13 KJV)
Salt has unique properties. It is a versatile compound used for many different things in our world today. Salt cures meat, flavors food, is a preservative, has abrasive properties, and melts ice and snow along our roadways.
A Christian is likened to salt. Often the truth spoken seems abrasive but works over time according to God’s will in melting sin which has been allowed to accumulate repeatedly upon a hardened heart. A Christian is both salt and light of the gospel message for glory and honor to God as he lives and speaks, including his actions, habits, and way of life. His actions often speak louder decibels than words.
If man professes a personal relationship with God, but his words and actions speak a different message than that of the truth of God’s Word, he has lost his usefulness for witnessing about the Gospel of Christ doing harm to the truth.
Mankind can lose value for serving God if they produce little spiritual fruit or begin to draw flies. God will not hesitate to chasten or rebuke a wayward Christian sending Him through refining fire or out unto the desert back forty to mature and grow him from milk to meat of His Word.
