Do you delight in God’s law?

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalms 1:1-3 KJV)

Delighting in the law of the Lord makes one blessed.  Hmmm many may think that God’s law is like applying a choker collar around their neck; constrictive and oppressing.  The law of God seems like it is a rote existence entailing one follow a set of laws without any personal satisfaction or fulfillment penciled into the equation.  Clearly many buy into the popular mindset that the quest for inner joy and peace solely comes from doing their own thing and having ample the opportunity to have all their eyes desire.  The Rolling Stones sang a popular song many years ago about man trying and trying, but never finding, satisfaction in life.  Many are trying to live life upon their own terms without the power and presence of God.

God’s Word clearly says in this first Psalm, and many other verses, man is blessed in the law of the Lord; not only in the law but cloaked with with true satisfaction, peace, and spiritual growth from choosing to meditate upon it day and night.  The power of a victorious life complete with peace, joy, and blessings comes from the power of God having nothing to do with anything man can do for himself.

One can alternately conclude remaining outside the law of the Lord makes one miserable in life.  God’s law provides boundaries and limits along a narrow pathway designed for man’s best interest at heart as he sojourns upon this earth.  Living outside God’s law may initially seem like a wonderful license of liberty to do as one pleases but this freedom comes at a high cost as natural limitations on length and quality of life are placed upon man and his physical body because of the wages of sin.  Every man succumbs to physical death at his individual appointed time; due to the natural law of sin upon the body which simply erodes away unto death and judgment.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27 KJV)

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23 KJV)

takeupyourcrossredocmclearThose who desire to live outside the laws of God choose both physical and spiritual death upon succumbing to death and go straight to a permanent residence in the bowels of Hell for all eternity.

For those who choose living in the law of God they choose being spiritually alive for all eternity in the presence of God.
