God calculates eternal worth according to His spiritual economy.
Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. (James 1:9-10 KJV)
The spiritual economy of God calculates worth on a different scale than that of this world. The brother of low degree who is perhaps poor in spirit and worldly finances upon this earth is lifted up or made prosperous in the eternal realm. While the man who is rich and full financially and materially on this earth, having no need of God, is made of low estate in the heavenly realm.
Riches of this earth like fine gold, silver, big bank accounts, and multiple earthly treasures have no lasting value in God’s spiritual economy. They are fleeting, here today and perhaps gone tomorrow, and certainly destroyed at the end of times along with all things on this earth. God’s spiritual treasure meter runs exclusively on spiritual values. Man is rewarded with eternal treasures according to his fruit and works which glorify and honor God rather than rewarded for accumulating things which will burn up in the end gained from following the god of this world.
Those who are in a personal relationship with God through faith and of low estate here on earth will be greatly rewarded and amass great and lasting heavenly riches in the eternal realm. Man who has aligned himself with the god of this world accruing earthly treasures may find himself whining and wanting God’s spiritual riches from across the great dividing gulf separating the holiness of Heaven from the fires and destruction of Hell.
