God’s plan for man was set in motion with the earthly birth of Jesus Christ.
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (Matthew 2:1 KJV)
The physical birth of Jesus Christ initiated some spectacular spiritual events, at the mighty hand of God, to swing into motion upon this earth. The underlying spiritual current operating beneath outward circumstances of this early New Testament time was the future coming of the King of the Jews. This future event had been prophesied about and many Jews living in Jerusalem since the Babylonian captivity ended were on the lookout for a future ruler and king.
Yes, Jesus Christ’s birth was a fulfillment of Old Testament scripture which ushered in the coming King however, Jesus Christ was not recognized as a coming king at the time of His physical birth. The Bible tells us in this scripture verse wise men from the east were sent to Jerusalem because of this birth but it is not clear how soon these men were sent nor exactly when the star guiding their journey first appeared in the sky.
These wise men from the east were likely astrologers, familiar with the makeup of the night time sky, a new star shining brightly would have caught their attention, causing them to wonder at it and follow the brightly lit pathway, making their way to Jerusalem from the east according to the will of God to see this newborn King of the Jews Jesus Christ.
The physical birth of Jesus Christ set in motion God’s perfect plan for Jesus Christ to become known The King of the Jews as prophesied about in Old Testament scripture. Many still do not understand His Sovereignty as King of Kings today.
