Are you a light brightly shining for God or a dark shadow living in this world?
And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil. (Zephaniah 1:12 KJV)
The Israelite’s were comfortable and content in their apathetic state of sin. They had allowed things of this world to accumulate about them making their pampered and worldly lifestyle pleasant and palatable. Like a second thought they added a little taste of God in the worldly mix along with the darkness of the god of this world. This was like attempting to mix oil and water. Darkness and light will never meld or blend together.
God’s Word says “I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees…” promising certain punishment to those who were settled in their apathy and content to serve God according to their own accord rather than with His light and Truth shining forth from them. These people were set in their ways and did not consider ever changing their ways.
God always shines in the darkness. Among these Jewish People God’s supernatural light illuminated the wicked and evil darkness, like a flashlight in a darkened room, highlighting their apathetic sinful state against the holiness and righteousness of God.
God’s light still cuts through darkness today.
