Take Up Your Cross July 14th 2015

Honor your parents, especially as they age becoming more child-like.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (Exodus 20:12 KJV)

This is not just a thought or a good idea.  Honoring your mother and father is a commandment from God.  A commandment with a promise attached to it: “that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee…”

Aging is often a difficult process for both parents and children.  The parents become more child-like with concerns and needs requiring assistance because of their aging process while the children age and mature becoming caretakers and custodians of their elderly parents.

It is important to allow your parents and other elders to age with grace and dignity.  It is a time to care for them in a way that honors and glorifies God; treating them like you were caring for God himself.  Not only does this allow them to age gracefully but it is living according to God’s will.
