What do you highly desire and take great delight in?
As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. (Song of Solomon 2:3 KJV)
There are different thoughts and beliefs on this book in the Bible called Song of Solomon; whether it is an actual description of a couple courting in a marriage relationship or a vivid and vibrant portrayal of mankind’s relationship with Jesus as well as God’s relationship with His Son. It can be viewed as both: a picture of a healthy and vibrant earthly or heavenly spiritual relationship; with God working in the middle from the inside out.
This verse speaks of an apple that is highly desirable. This apple is a metaphor that can be a groom spoken of by his wife a wonderful portrait of a couple who are deliriously in love and courting in a marriage relationship. It can also be a picture of Jesus Christ who is the apple which is highly desirable. Especially to those who view Him through quickened alive spiritual eyes He is that apple which is delightful and sweet to the taste. Just as a fresh new apple in season is a beauty of nature and desirable to eat God is viewed as a highly desirable spiritual fruit for those yearning for a spiritual relationship with Him.
Jesus Christ is highly desirable to those who have their eyes quickened spiritually alive. He is the apple of the tree which was cut down upon this earth, rose again, and now resides in the eternal realm with God for all eternity.
