Take Up Your Cross may 30th 2015

Soften hearts by preparing the soil for His message.

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. (Hosea 10:12 KJV)

God inspired biblical writers to record His message of Truth wrapped in a message that all mankind could understand and sow into their heart.  God put His Word on the bottom shelf for all mankind to understand.  Often His Word uses different aspects of farming for a vehicle to bring about His message.  Things like tilling the soil and growing crops are familiar to most people and they can readily relate to His Word and simply understand His message.

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground…” are all words commonly used in farming and producing crops which many are intimately familiar with.  God is speaking about preparing the inner condition of mankind’s heart.  He desires that man work the soil breaking up that soil which is hardened tilling it or hoeing it to break apart the ground so what is left is fertile soil conditioned to hear and retain the Word of God.

If the soil of the heart is not worked and tilled the seed of the gospel message cannot penetrate into the inner heart sprouting up new spiritual growth tender and robust with the things of God blooming forth.  If the seed falls on rocky soil it dries up and fades away without seeking to be filled with the righteousness of Christ and growing and maturing in His Word.

takeupyourcrossredocmclearWhat is the condition of the soil in the hearts around you: softened and tilled or rocky and hardened?
