What do you count as dung in light of Christ?

But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: (Philippians 3:7-9 KJV)

Paul is not stuck upon things of his past.  He is focusing ahead towards the future and counting all that he had or did in the past worth nothing in light of the knowledge of Jesus Christ.  He was not like Lot’s wife who drug her heels in the sand resisting the brightness of a future with God preferring the comfort of the world.  Paul, on the other hand, embraced his sudden new found life in Christ; counting anything left behind as worth nothing when compared to personally knowing the supernatural things of Christ.  Paul ran ahead; lots wife lagged behind.  God chose to turn Lots wife into a pillar of salt for her clinging to her past.  Paul, on the other hand, laid all; down running eagerly towards the things of God.

Paul had studied much and acquired knowledge based upon the law and likely a future seat standing open in the elite “Sanhedrin Lawyers Club.” This group of men marveled at their own uprightness, social status, power, finances, and ability under the cloak of the law.  They gathered together and ruled; reaching out with their power; ruling over and oppressing ordinary citizens, causes deemed unworthy, or ideals not matching their own criteria far from the perfection of God’s standards.

Paul threw a likely opportunity to be a part of this elite lawyers club in this dark world away without a second thought; for serving Christ upon this earth and for all eternity.
