Are you facing terrifying waves from a mega storm in your life?
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? (Mark 4:37-41 KJV)
We have all faced a big storm once or twice in our life; some of us cannot find a clearing cloud and respite from inclement weather. It is that storm of the century complete with roaring waves reaching new heights and rain that pounds down upon us that begins to weaken any resolve we have left, and we begin to doubt; wringing our hands as we contemplate the intensity and insult of the waves about us.
Yes we all have faced difficult circumstances that wrap us up in doubt, fear, and terror. For some people it is a battle with an array of addicting substances, others it is an abusive marriage or relationship, alcohol reaches in and hooks many who are facing rock bottom in their life, some individuals battle a constant chronic disease or illness and some waste away to nothing succumbing to the clutches of a grave disease such as cancer. Whatever you’re facing that has you caught in the throes of despair and agony, wringing your hands and fearing the worst; is your blockbuster storm of the century,
Jesus has already faced all situations we experience upon this earth when He was in the flesh upon this earth. He knows exactly how you feel and the scope or magnitude of the storms you face. Nothing that stormy ocean waves convey into our life will ever surprise Him.
In these particular verses Jesus was at rest in the midst of stormy seas; in fact He was sound asleep upon the pillow. He was not fretting about and anxious in the midst of this big storm. The second important thing to take note of is His complete command of nature. The wind and the sea immediately hearkened unto His powerful presence and authority of His voice. He can manage whatever situation you and I face in life as we allow Him to steer our ship according to His will for our life. The third important thing to take note of in this verse is His peace. When He is at the helm of your life great calmness will infiltrate and flow freely into your life amid any storms; bringing about His great peace that cannot eloquently be described.
Do you try to manage and calm the storms in life as they rage about you or allow God to direct your life according to His will and way as a river of peace flowing from Him to inside of you despite circumstances swirling about you?
