What thoughts are filling your mind today?
Today, October 31st, many allow thoughts of Halloween to fill their mind up with ghouls, witches, evil, and darkness to freely swirl about. Many choose to celebrate this holiday with their children, going to parties, and gathering candy while dressed up in a wide range of costumes; from television personalities to likeness of evil characters. It is a worldly celebration or gala playing with evil and darkness for innocent children and practicing Satanists alike.
For myself, I choose not to participate in celebrating this holiday rooted in paganism and occult, but will choose rather to contemplate upon the virtues of God and His power and protection encircled about me on this holiday set aside for celebrating darkly rooted spirits. Each person has liberty to make their own choice concerning any Halloween activities they desire to participate in; however, for incorrect choices according to God’s standards, each person will be judged by God.
The Bible does compel us to remain on alert against the scheming of satan:
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:11-12 KJV)
Daily we are called to immerse or blanket ourselves in His Word allowing it to soak into our mind infiltrating into our heart and placing a layer of armor outwardly. These layers of protection operate in conjunction with the presence of the Holy Spirit to protect and repel evil thoughts and desires from becoming prevalent in any fashion in life. It is important to clothe ourselves with “spiritual apparel” or armor of our salvation; allowing His protection to shield us from the fiery darts of the devil especially upon this day of Halloween when darkness and evil activity runs rampant; often unchecked by those who seek to follow the god of this world.
Lastly, focus upon the mind of the God working and dwelling richly within you. Those who profess the name of God through His Son Jesus Christ can allow Him to keep their minds fixed or set upon holy things of God instead of fleshly desires and participation in the darkness of this present world. Evil works and lies left to accumulate in one’s mind can work to attempt to minimize or deflate a remembrance of His great mercy, goodness, and grace; squashing its importance to our daily life.
Paul tells us in the book of Philippians to keep our minds fixed upon these things:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)
The presence of The Holy Spirit seals your heart against possession of satan but does not stop him from seeking to distract you; especially upon this day of Halloween with much evil circulating about; do not give fuel to satan’s attempts to sidetrack you from intently focusing upon the things of God.
