Take Up Your Cross October 3rd 2014

Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly, And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. (Jonah 2:1-3 KJV)

Many of us have gotten ourselves into strange and unappealing circumstances where we have been tried and tested by God.  Man has cried out to God from prison, harrowing circumstances near the shadow of death because of accidents and situations of impending doom, or from the hopelessness of dependence upon drugs or alcohol.

God will use any circumstance in our life that will get our full attention to swing towards Him; even from a belly of a whale.  God knows exactly what it will take to make man sit up and take notice.  He will use any challenging situation in our life to prick us into seeing Him instead of our troubles and trials.  He will lay us flat out on our back so we have no choice but to look up to Him if that is what it takes to get our attention off the things of the world and onto His way.

When God allows man to wander about and feeling pleasant amid humanly pleasing circumstances in this world man will often choose to suppress or ignore God and His inner voice of conviction.  Mankind, caught up in the pleasures of the world, often fail to place undivided attention upon the things of God.  That is why God chose the whale for Jonah, the Damascus Road event in Paul’s life, and the drink of water at the well for the woman of Samaria.  God will use whatever it takes to get our attention upon Him and His ways.

Only when we have our focus intently placed upon Him do circumstances, swelling waves and stormy seas about us, begin to calm becoming placid around us.  Jonah had a different take upon God’s will once he fell out of the whale’s belly, Paul traveled a new pathway through life after his life altering illumination, and the woman at the well ran off to witness about God to others instead of being unsociable and hiding from others in her community due to her rampant sin and shame.

takeupyourcrossredocmclearWhat has God done in your life to get your undivided attention?  He knows just what circumstances will get us moving according to His will and way in our life.
