Does your spiritual reputation smell savory or stink in this world?
Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour. (Ecclesiastes 10:1 KJV)
This particular verse of scripture is talking about spiritual pollution found amongst Christians. Contamination from sin does rear its ugly head among professing Christians because no man can keep the law of God perfectly while sojourning in this sin filled world. Even though all spiritually regenerated mankind has full access to the supernatural power of God dwelling within his heart man is still surrounded by evil and darkness of sin flourishing in this world.
Though many professing Christians might like to purport their ability to live according to the law of God in His strength the real truth is no man can be found perfect or without sin this side of Heaven. Man has a constant battle between their sinful flesh and their new spiritual nature which resides within their quickened heart.
Just like medicine found with dead flies in it is counted as worthless for medical use, or food found with flies is not edible; a professing Christian occupying a place in God’s house, especially in a leadership role, who is emitting a stench of sin and shame rather than an enticing aroma of a healthy robust fruit production ruins the witness of Christ for the entire body leaving a stench among Christianity as a whole in this world.
Does your life leave a pleasant or putrid odor about you as you profess a personal relationship with Christ and live as a prominent spiritual billboard among many unregenerate souls walking dead in this world?
