Take Your Cross
Matthew 10:38-39 (KJV) And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
This verse, along with many other verses, speaks of total surrender. This message for every softened heart means to be willing to die in serving Christ. Though such sacrifice does not happen to all followers, God’s Word does tell us that martyrs are surrounding His throne in the eternal realm.
The Apostle Paul, as one example, was well aware that in many of his serving situations, he was often near both physical harm and death. This knowledge did not bother his service or make fear rise in his throat. Instead, this prodded his heart and pushed him to live for Christ rather than for himself. In a nutshell, this eternal message of hope and life is all about Him and nothing about us!
Take up your cross means to glorify and honor God by serving and savoring Him despite our immediate circumstances as we sojourn in this world. Why, because God both expects and deserves our devotion. Without Him, no person is found worthy of Him forever.
