The Door Is Wide Open
1 Corinthians 16:8-9 (KJB) But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost. 9 For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
The Apostle Paul is quite happy to spend some additional time in Ephesus because the door to hearts is wide open here. However, do not be fooled, though it was an easy time for him to preach the gospel message; however, at the end of this scripture, please note is recorded “there are many adversaries…”
You see, The Apostle Paul is not excited about a time of ease in preaching. No, the entire message is that despite his being surrounded by enemies, he taught about the truths of God.
It is true that whenever a preacher enters his pulpit, or in this case, as Paul began to teach in the streets of this city about God, enemies of the truth gather roundabout. The Apostle Paul knew that “friend-enemies,” as well as sincere hearts, gathered to hear the message.
We, too, can count on both allies and adversaries as we sow the seeds of the gospel message. God never told any person that His will for their life was going to be an easy job. No, Jesus Christ prepared His followers to expect hardships and troubles along this pathway in the world.
Though enemies surround you, as they did Paul, take heart as you teach and preach the Word of God as He directs! Who knows, maybe an outward enemy of Christ will turn into a softened soul with a powerful, moving message, as did The Apostle Paul.
