The Fountains of the Great Deep

Genesis 7:11 (KJB) In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

Have you ever given any deep thought to the biblical account of the great flood?

One important thing to consider is that before this day there was no such thing as rain, as the earth was shrouded in water vapor.  This was earth-shattering for me the very first time that I realized that there was no rain ever before falling on this earth.  Why, because rain is so frequent in these days in which we live and I just assumed it had always rained.

Secondly, not only did the rainfall begin to fall from the sky, but it came from fountains from the deep.  A deep-seated water fountain is another thing to ponder, for it is not familiar to us in the day in which we live.

Third, God promises at the end of this flood account that no such water deluging event will ever happen again.  Though we do have floods that cover a lot of ground today, often in the Spring, we do not have any kind of flooding like this single event from biblical times.

This catastrophic flood event of biblical times served A God-appointed purpose, with the most significant impact being the judgment of God’s people for sin.  A flooding occurrence God promised will never happen again on this earth; however, His final concerning the presence of sin will remain on His divine schedule.
