The Kiss of Death
Hosea 13:1-2 (KJV) When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died. And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.
Here in these scriptures, literally, is a kiss of death. What do I mean by that statement? Just what I said, Ephraim chose to worship idolatry, and with his offensive choice, suddenly came death. One moment he was alive, and his life abruptly came to an end in the next moment.
Kissing the calves refers to the importance of serving idolatry in the lives of these lost and spiritually wayward souls. This worship is directed towards self rather than set aside for honoring and savoring God. The object of this worship was idolatrous and fatal.
I hope you understand that the same “kiss of death,” which happened in Old Testament times, is the inevitable end for any soul who worships anything and any person in place of adoring and reverencing God. Only God is worthy of this honor.
