The Lawyers and Pharisees Obstructed Learning
Luke 11:52 (KJB) Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
The Key of Knowledge mentioned here is none other than Jesus Christ. In this world, spiritual learning is obstructed by wickedness and evil working through a litany of rules, regulation, and red tape. This outward show of “following the rules” is really an attempt to hound and hinder hearts keeping them from obtaining spiritual knowledge.
Jesus is pointedly speaking in this verse to ancient lawyers many who prided themselves on making sure men followed a multitude of laws and traditions and even instituted stringent regulations by operating kangaroo courts. This strictness relied heavily on the traditions and beliefs of this world rather than aligning with freedom and grace only found with God.
Ultimately the Pharisees expected those around them to keep stringent rules and regulations while they themselves failed to fulfill these very same expectations in their own lives. Many such leaders and lawyers were nothing more than hypocritical hounders in relating to others.
Finally, hypocrites such as these men were involved in not only obstructing spiritual learning and liberty in this world but eventually were tangled in with leaders seeking death on the cross for the key of knowledge, Jesus Christ. However, no roadblocks in this world can impede genuine knowledge and the key to life.
