The Mother of All
Galatians 4:26 (KJB) But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
This scripture verse is pointing to the heavenly city above us. It is a reference to the third heaven. The beautiful place that the Apostle John visited and was unable to adequately describe. Ezekiel vibrantly dreamed of this city. It is the city spoken of in the book of Revelation and many other places throughout the canon of scripture.
Why is this city of Jerusalem mentioned above described as “the mother of us all…” as is divinely recorded in God’s Word for our learning? Because it does not refer to the city of Jerusalem on this earth which fulfills one covenant. The new city of Jerusalem satisfies another promise that will be fulfilled at some time in the future.
The city Jerusalem above is a holy city ushering in eternal hope. Knowing that it does exist, is free for any heart that reaches out in faith, and that it is God’s plan for a new perpetual city fills us with peace and hope that will last forever.
