The People Saw
1 Kings 18:38-39 (KJV) Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
Sometimes it takes a miraculous event to open up the eyes of a lost soul naturally hardened to the truths of God. It’s true; hearing a person speak about the power and purposes of God does not always soften a hardened heart standing in opposition to God. Sometimes the salvation process requires miraculous events to take place.
Though God tells us in His Word in numerous verses that hearing His message can save lost spiritual hearts, not every soul is open and willing to receive and personally apply this vital lesson. The truth is any person can say “no” to God and to ignore His prodding to their heart. That is right; each is given the right to refuse God because God has given every person the freedom to say no! It is in these times of doubt and strong opposition that God may choose to put into action something miraculous for making Himself visible to them.
The sense of vision is often altogether different from the sense of hearing, for seeing can produce visible, or tangible results that, when heard, may seem Impossible. Here in these verses above, God uses the physical sight of these particular spiritually lost souls to introduce them to His power and presence. Indeed, God uses a seemingly impossible situation for proving that He exists. Not only that He lives, but at this moment, His power and presence are showcased by introducing fire into a trench filled with water.
Yes, I am confident you know that fire and water cannot naturally mix to produce a flame. That is, you’ll likely agree until God is involved in the process.
God can and will use any moment in this world to highlight who He is, His power, and to cement the truth that He does indeed exist. God’s supernatural power is above any power available in this world and is used to capture the attention of lost spiritual hearts ripe for salvation.
