The Power and Persuasion of Music
Daniel 3:4-7 (KJV) Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Reread these passages carefully, deeply thinking about the certainty of the presence of evil among these commandments of this earthly king. Especially in making corrupt the use of music and fear. This wicked king, Nebachezzar, who knows there are considerable potential and power packed into two mechanisms, pent up anxiety, and the playing of world-based music. The truth is that satan always has a plan which seems similar to the pathway given by God, but the nature and the end thereof is quite different.
These verses above seem to indicate an undeniable power made possible through the presence of fear, and song and this characterization may sound both reasonable and rational, with trouble touted to reach every soul devoid of any personal choice. But oh, but wait, if you read beyond these verses, further into this chapter, you will read that not all the captives opted to bow down to the musical manipulation provided by this king.
There you have it, the truth that some of these ancient people elected to opt-out of plunging into fear and anxious thinking. Further, these same people, who remained grounded in God, refused to bow down and worship the golden calf. In other words, the world-based music and far mongering did not automatically trigger every person to follow their corrupt flesh rather than choosing to follow God.
The epitome of this truth about fear and music is that every softened spiritual heart does not have to follow their natural bent towards evil, but can choose to stand in the victorious power and presence of Christ rather than sinking in the corruption of their flesh. Be like Daniel, say no to wickedness.
