The Prophet Jeremiah Had a Message to Proclaim
Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever. Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD. (Jeremiah 3:12-13 KJV)
Through the voice of Jeremiah God promises to not let His anger fall upon Israel because of His great and abundant mercy. God directs Jeremiah to proclaim this message to the Jewish people who were busy having fun in the folly of their sin placing a gulf between them and sweet fellowship with God.
God cannot have anything to do with sin and those who are lost in their sin or have momentum backwards sliding into sin cannot enjoy close fellowship with God. However, God is merciful and desires that mankind acknowledge his own natural personal sin problem and get in right spiritual fellowship with Him.
God has always been partial to the Jewish people since the beginning, but now in this New Testament Age of Grace He desires both Jews and Gentiles to be in sweet spiritual fellowship with Him.
