The Shepherds Search for the Babe
Luke 2:15-16 (KJB) And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
The Search for the Babe Begins.
The actual time frame of this travel is unknown as the Bible is not that specific. However biblical scholars have surmised the amount of time it would have taken these men to walk the distance necessary to see the baby first hand. According to popularly held calculations, Jesus may have been two years old when the shepherds laid eyes on Him for the first time.
The men sent to find Jesus, some will claim, saw the star which appeared in the sky the moment Jesus was born for they were shepherds in the field attending to their sheep and would have been quite familiar with the many stars found in the nighttime sky. However, the Bible tells us clearly in this verse that these men were visited by angels who made them aware of the birth of Jesus. As the angels disappeared these men were anxious to travel to see this baby.
These men, shepherds, were divinely guided by a star shining in the sky to the location of this baby who was Jesus Christ.
Not only did these men travel a great distance to lay their eyes on Him, but they came baring precious gifts for they knew He was one special baby for God to visit them with the news of His birth. I hope you too have traveled whatever distance necessary in meeting personally with Jesus Christ.
