The “Spiritual Oomph” of Jesus
Luke 2:20-21 (KJB) And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. 21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
These two verses are filled with great “spiritual oomph”!
The shepherds had completed their journey to see the newly born baby and were returning unto their fields rejoicing and praising God for what they had seen and heard. The spiritual implications of their journey had not been in vain or lost unto them. They understood there was a spiritual greatness with this child who was named Jesus. They were thrilled in their heart with His birth.
Some people, in ancient times and today, who encounter Jesus Christ come away defeated and deflated with a soured countenance. Not these shepherds! They were overjoyed to hear about and were given an opportunity to meet Jesus! They understood in God’s perfect timing this young lad would grow into the great spiritual role God His Father had planned for Him since the beginning of time.
Though these shepherds likely did not understand the spiritual depth and divine purpose of His earthly birth, they knew that He was conceived with a divine role from God.
