The Thief Deserved to Die
Luke 23:42-43 (KJB) And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Salvation is solely based on unmerited favor with God. Certainly, this biblical record of how one thief at Calvary came to personally know Jesus Christ with nothing to offer towards his salvation. There was no work he could do, or anything valuable he could bargain, or no purchase made in obtaining eternal life with God.
Material based things of this world did not matter because living forever is a gift of God only found through faith in the finished work of Calvary. This gift of life cannot be attained any other way.
God offers one way (John 14:6) to salvation.
Simply put, though the thief, and every other person, deserves to die, God made a way for each of us to enter into eternal paradise through faith.
There is no doubt, this thief and any other person who places faith in God will be remembered by God on the day of his or her death and found forevermore in eternity inside sweet fellowship with God though only spiritual death was deserved on his own merit.
