The Wicked Are Like Scavenging Rats
Revelation 22:14-15 (KJV) Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
The thought of giant rats foraging for food, especially near me, makes me shudder. I think that most of us can recall a movie or two where city-dwelling rats scavage for food and potluck together among a putrid garbage heap. This scavenging often happens near restaurants and other places with scraps, providing rats with a succulent buffet of trash—a steady source for their continued sustainment.
Then I move on to thinking about how God must feel when spiritual rats or wicked spiritual souls scavage about for fodder among humanity on this earth. Yes, some souls are so eager to enjoy things of this world that they forage among leftovers to get a little taste of things of this earth and, simultaneously, out of the other side of their lips, they profess a personal relationship with God. It cannot be true both ways. A person cannot sit on the fence in this world, dipping his feet in the quicksand of this earth, all the while raising his hand with a hearty amen to God!
No, this verse says blessed are those who obey God’s decrees. Obedience to God with both head and heart familiarity with God’s Word allows a spiritually softened soul to trust God for his every need and live forever, entering into eternity inside sweet fellowship with God. However, this scripture also tells us that outside of enjoying fellowship with God lie dogs, sorcerers, whoremongers, murders, idolators, and liars. In other words, unclean souls or spiritual rats choosing to adore and stick together with satan rather than serve and savor God.
Each person must answer this question: am I a sincere child of God, or am I a spiritual rat who forages for his every meal and builds his nest among the wickedness at work in this world? Yes, the corrupt at heart are like scavenging rats whose carcasses will inhabit hell, while children of God are alive forever in sweet fellowship with God.
